Green Horizon - On demand, self sustaining, housing solutions

Management Team

James Pope

President and CEO

For James Pope, Green Horizon is the realization of a vision that began more than 30 years ago.

Growing up on a farm in rural Missouri, James was raised to cherish the land and let nothing go to waste. Shaped by this profound respect for the environment, and instilled with an ethic for hard work, James' natural affinity for building things led him to pursue an education in industrial engineering at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

After founding his first successful business while still in college, James became one of the originators of the commercial Structured Insulating Panel (SIP), a now widely-used composite building material. James envisioned the product as the cornerstone of a highly-efficient, rapidly-deployed building system capable of withstanding all manners of severe weather conditions. Though the first structure made it to prototype, the concept proved to be ahead of its time, and the idea was sidelined as James' entrepreneurial spirit lead him to pursue a series of successful ventures in wood products manufacturing.

Yet the merit of the idea would only be postponed.

Fast forward to 2005. James, having long ago sold his interests in the wood products industry to seek new opportunities in California, had since established a well-earned reputation for building and restoring high-end San Francisco properties. Versed in the formidable challenges of California building codes and restrictions in the historic Bay Area, James conceptualized a modular building system designed to fit into a shipping container, and be expanded right at the construction site.

Then, halfway across the country, Katrina hit.

Like millions of Americans, James was shocked and saddened by the devastation that leveled neighborhoods and left and tens of thousands of families homeless. Even more tragic to James was the aftermath and its numerous failings: relief was delayed, infrastructure collapsed, and the emergency housing that promised to restore life to normal was eventually determined to be an even greater hazard to human health.

James Pope knew he could do better.

Calling on the building system concept that he established three decades ago, James quickly prototyped a scale model of his design: an environmentally-responsible, disaster-response home that could fit inside a shipping container, be transported anywhere in the world by truck, rail or sea at a moment’s notice, and be completely self-sufficient without the need for any external infrastructure.

And with that, Green Horizon Manufacturing was born.

Today, the original vision has evolved to encompass a full range of residential and commercial structures – from mobile medical units to recreational cottages – for a multitude of potential applications. But to James Pope, Green Horizon will always be more than a company – it’s a mission: bringing to market the next generation of on-demand structures that enabled governments and emergency responders to ease human suffering around the globe.

Bill Eral
Director of Design and Innovation

Even to a man who has designed thousands of homes and buildings, illustrated over 50 books, and contributed to several video games among his design credits, some of the most satisfying work in Bill Eral’s long career has been the opportunity to bring the vision of Green Horizon to life.

As Director of Design and Innovation, Bill is responsible for shaping the look and feel of Green Horizon’s product – from exterior and interior previsualization, to the design and layout of the company’s manufacturing faclities.

An erstwhile engineering student turned classically-trained artist and illustrator, Bill is the founder and president of Bill Eral Design, a San Francisco-based studio for 3D digital structural models and architectural renderings. Bill's commercial projects have included the Stanford Medical Center, Berkeley’s Lawrence Laboratory, the Concord Naval Weapons Center, and the Glide Foundation, in addition to numerous residences throughout Callifornia, Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest.

Bill received his fine arts education at the University of California at Berkley, and studied film at DeAnza College. Today, he feels fortunate to be a part of a company that is poised to make such a difference in the world.

At Green Horizon, Bill is seeing his art becoming reality to help people in their most desperate time of need. It’s a legacy that would make any artist proud.

Peyton Bachan
Director of Humanitarian Outreach

For as long as she can remember, Peyton Bachan has had a passion for the love and care of others.

Whether through National CASA – as an advocate for children in the court system due to abuse or neglect, or the numerous animal rescue organizations and charities she supports through the founding of her retail pet boutique, Bark Place, helping those in need is a calling that she keeps close to her heart.

To Peyton, the opportunity to cultivate Green Horizon’s relationships with humanitarian organizations around the world was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help others on an unprecedented scale. As a Green Horizon co-founder and Director of Humanitarian Outreach, her responsibilities include building partnerships with donors and recipients, identifying outreach opportunities for Green Horizon, and directing the company’s charitable and humanitarian efforts.

If you ask Peyton, the abilities of Green Horizon’s products to harness the power of the sun for energy, supply clean water, and go weeks without utility connections pale in comparison to its more noble aspirations.

To her, Green Horizon creates communities, eases suffering, and puts dreams back on course. And she feels fortunate each day to be a part of it.

Danny Lineberry
Director of National Distribution

A second-generation homebuilder, Danny Lineberry can tell you that a home is more than wood or bricks – it’s a place where dreams are realized, life’s moments are shared, and memories are made. He can also tell you about the tragedy of disaster, and how a family can lose it all in an instant.

For Danny, that was the appeal of Green Horizon.

As vice president of construction for one of the country’s largest homebuilders, and later as president of his Nashville Tennessee-based building and remodeling firm, Danny has made the dream of home ownership possible for thousands of families. Now as Director of National Distribution for Green Horizon, he’s helping to keep that dream alive in the face of natural disaster.

Recognizing the potential for Green Horizon to make a difference in the world. Danny put his own company on hold to help establish Green Horizon’s manufacturing facilities and complete the first prototype. For Danny, it’s doing what’s in his blood – with the ability to impact the lives of others on a global scale.

A Member of the Homebuilders Association of Nashville, and licensed builder in the state of Tennesee, Danny holds a certification from Cape Vo-Tech School, OSHA Safety Certification, and TDEC Certification. Over the years, he has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades for his various contributions to the housing industry.

Never one to be content to rest on his laurels, Danny knows that disaster relief is only one side of Green Horizon as he works to build the national distribution network. With so many potential applications of the product, emergency housing is just the beginning. Fortunately, he’s in it for the long haul. When you’re helping to solve one of the world’s biggest housing challenges, he admits you’d be crazy not to be involved in it.
